How Skylight Installation Works
Skylight installation is a roofing project as much as a window project — here’s the four-stage process:
Step 1 — Assessment & Location Planning
We evaluate the roof structure, rafter spacing, and interior ceiling to determine the best skylight location and size. We discuss fixed vs. vented and review the options with you.
Step 2 — Permit & Ordering
We pull any required permit and order the Velux unit with the correct flashing kit for your roofing material.
Step 3 — Roof Opening & Framing
The roof opening is cut and the rafters are framed with headers above and below—no rafter is cut without proper structural support.
Step 4 — Skylight & Flashing Installation
The curb or self-flashing unit is set, and the Velux integrated flashing system is installed correctly, integrating with the shingle courses. Sealant is applied at every critical joint.
Step 5 — Interior Finishing & Cleanup
The interior light shaft or ceiling is finished. We clean up debris on the roof and inside. You get a dry, bright space with a skylight that performs correctly.
